2022 Workshop Dates:
January 29-31, 2022
Due to COVID restrictions, we have restructured the pre-race course. We hope the changes will provide participants with earlier support and advice. The changes will also mean participants do not have to arrive in Whitehorse as early as in previous years (2.5 day in person segment vs. 4.5 days). Finally, racers can now sign up for three different options, providing more flexibility for their specific requirements. Feel free to email with questions!
Set Yourself Up For Success
Learn from MYAU veterans! We offer an experience-based course focused on self care, systems, trail specifics, race rules, and more, plus a wealth of entertaining and informative stories from past mistakes and successes.
The workshop this year (2021/22) has three options:
1. Online component (starting October 2021).
2. Day trip only (Jan 30th, 2022)
3. And/or the full course (online + 2.5 days in Whitehorse, in person).
Please follow this itinerary link for the full schedule.
Online group video sessions (5 sessions, 2.5 hours each): discussion, questions, and a structured delivery on a range of topics including race strategy and planning, winter safety, and gear systems.
Individual meeting (approx. 1 hour) for one-on-one time with an instructor to chat about personal kit/concerns/etc.
Upon registration you'll have access to the MYAU Workshop Facebook Group for support leading up to the race, and learn from the questions and comments from other group members. Questions and comments will be answered by your course instructors/past MYAU veterans. Gain valuable insight into what others have experienced and find out what might work for you.
Also you will receive a detailed trail description (distances, major climbs, check point information).
The hands on and experiential component is where your confidence in the cold will be built up and have you feeling as ready as possible for the MYAU. Meet your future friends and trail mates, hang out with locals, and check out the Yukon Quest trail!
This is what’s included in the full 2.5 day training program:
Online course plus Facebook group access
2.5 days of in-person practical training and discussion in Whitehorse (Saturday Jan. 29th – Monday Jan. 31st). Itinerary to be finalized very soon.
Transportation to and from trail outings.
Lunch on Saturday and Sunday.
Please Note: Participants will be responsible for booking and paying for their own accommodation in Whitehorse during the in-person camp, as well as meals other than those noted above.
Day Trip Only
Sunday, Jan 30th, leaving Whitehorse at 9:30 a.m., returning 10:30 p.m
Transportation to Muktuk Kennels and back to Whitehorse following the bivy practise
Lunch at Muktuk
Travel the race route from Muktuk Kennels (1st checkpoint) to the start of the Old Dawson Trail. Participants will then have a chance to test out their stove, make a wood fire, and bivy for a few hours before returning to Whitehorse.
